Frequently Asked Questions

Clinical Care & Treatment

  • No. While Dr. T has specialized training in Behavioral Sleep Medicine, Abide Psychiatry is a comprehensive mental health clinic. We provide expert care for General Anxiety, Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar II, and life transitions, whether you struggle with sleep or not.

  • CBT-I is the gold-standard, first-line treatment for chronic insomnia. Unlike sleep medications that only mask the problem, CBT-I is a structured, evidence-based program designed to fix the underlying behavioral and neurological drivers of your sleeplessness.

  • Yes. We offer comprehensive medical management for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This includes reviewing your sleep data and optimizing your CPAP/APAP machine settings for maximum clinical effectiveness. Additionally, for patients who struggle to tolerate their machine due to claustrophobia, sensory issues, or mask anxiety, we utilize targeted behavioral desensitization techniques to help you successfully adapt and achieve restorative sleep.

  • Yes, we treat Adult ADHD. However, we have a strict policy regarding stimulant medications (e.g., Adderall, Vyvanse).

    • Diagnosis: We require previous neuropsychological testing to confirm the diagnosis. We do not diagnose ADHD based solely on a symptom checklist during the first appointment.

    • Treatment: We prioritize non-stimulant medications and behavioral strategies first. Stimulants are prescribed cautiously and only when clinically indicated.

  • As an evidence-based practice, we are conservative in our prescribing of benzodiazepines (e.g., Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan) or opiates (e.g., Oxycondone, Percocet, Norco, Vicodin) due to safety risks and lack of long-term efficacy. We do not offer long-term maintenance of these medications and will work with you to taper off if you are currently taking them. Additionally, because we are a 100% telehealth clinic, we do not manage severe substance use disorders, detox, or acute psychiatric crises.

  • Faith integration is entirely optional and patient-led. As a Christian psychiatrist, Dr. T can incorporate biblical principles and prayer into your treatment plan if you request it. However, clinical excellence and evidence-based medical care are always our primary foundation, and patients of all worldview backgrounds are warmly welcomed.

Practice Policies, Insurance & Communication

  • Abide Psychiatry will officially launch clinical operations in July 2026. However, we are currently actively pre-scheduling new patient intake evaluations. You can secure your spot by filling out the secure intake form on our website.

  • We are a 100% digital-first, paperless clinic. Dr. T conducts all appointments via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. To legally receive care, you must be physically located within the state of North Carolina at the time of your appointment.

  • Yes, we are credentialing to be in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Aetna, and Cigna PPO/EPO. For all other insurance plans, we are considered an out-of-network provider. We can provide you with a "Superbill" (a detailed medical receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid insurance. Because we have formally opted out of Medicare, we can see Medicare-eligible patients strictly on a private-pay (cash) basis. This requires signing a standard agreement acknowledging that Medicare cannot be billed for these visits. However, due to state regulations, we cannot accept or provide private-pay services to patients enrolled in Medicaid.

  • Because we reserve extended, unhurried time blocks for our patients, we enforce a strict 48-hour cancellation policy. Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed appointments (no-shows), are subject to the full session fee.

Our specialty is helping you overcome the anxiety, claustrophobia, or persistent insomnia that often makes CPAP therapy difficult.

Please Note:If your sleep disordered breathing is highly complex or requires advanced titration (such as BiPAP, ASV, or underlying neurological complications), we may co-manage your care or refer you to a Sleep Neurologist to ensure the highest level of clinical safety.

  • To protect clinical boundaries and ensure the highest level of data security, we do not maintain a live phone line. All clinical questions, scheduling adjustments, and refill requests must be submitted directly through your Secure Patient Portal, found through the Current Patients page. If you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, please dial 911 or 988 immediately, or go to the nearest emergency room. Please note: For your security, do not email clinical or billing questions directly.
