  • Founder and Psychiatrist

Welcome to Abide Psychiatry, a 100% telehealth clinic serving all of North Carolina. I am Dr. Pichit Thanupakorn, though most of my patients simply call me "Dr. T."

    The Professional Journey

I earned my medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine before moving to the Research Triangle to complete my psychiatry residency at Duke University Medical Center. During my time at Duke, I had the honor of serving as Chief Resident in Emergency Psychiatry.

Throughout my clinical experience—spanning emergency, inpatient, and outpatient care—I noticed a consistent pattern: behind almost every severe case of anxiety, depression, or burnout was a fractured foundation of sleep. I built Abide Psychiatry to bridge the gap between traditional mental health care and specialized sleep medicine, because healing the mind starts with healing the night.

Today, my clinical expertise is built on three pillars:

    • Behavioral Sleep Medicine: Gold-standard CBT-I for chronic insomnia.

    • Clinical Sleep Apnea Management: Ordering diagnostic sleep testing (HSAT) and managing CPAP therapy for mask anxiety and compliance.

    • Comprehensive Psychiatry: Conservative, evidence-based medication management and psychotherapy (ACT, CBT, and Psychodynamic).

Outside of my clinical work, I am deeply committed to expanding healthcare access through global and local service. Having led and participated in numerous medical mission trips across the U.S. and abroad, I bring that same spirit of dedication and attention to my patients at Abide Psychiatry, ensuring every person feels truly heard and valued.

    The Foundation

While Abide Psychiatry is a medical practice grounded in rigorous science, my personal approach to care is built on the foundation of my Christian faith, specifically 1 John 4:11-12:

"Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us." (ESV)

For me, psychiatry is a way to make that love tangible. Whether we integrate prayer into our sessions or stick strictly to clinical modalities, my goal is to help "make love complete" by offering patient, attentive care that helps you find restoration and peace.

    Life Outside the Office

When I am not seeing patients, I am an active leader in my local church community, serving on the worship team and leading young adult groups.

I love exploring innovative ways to support mental wellness, including the therapeutic use of music, 3D printing, and spending time outdoors. On the weekends, you can usually find me playing the guitar or ukulele, rock climbing, swimming, or visiting the North Carolina Zoo, Busch Gardens, or Topgolf.
