Portrait of Dr. Pichit Thanupakorn, a Christian telehealth psychiatrist and sleep medicine specialist serving North Carolina.

Hey, it’s Dr. T!

I’m Dr. Pichit Thanupakorn, a Duke-trained medical doctor (MD) and a board-eligible psychiatrist based in the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle, providing 100% telehealth care to patients across all of North Carolina. I am deeply dedicated to an integrative and person-centered approach to mental health.

Throughout my clinical career, I’ve noticed a consistent, undeniable pattern: behind almost every severe case of anxiety, depression, or burnout is a fractured foundation of sleep. I built Abide Psychiatry to bridge the gap between traditional mental health care and specialized medical sleep management—because healing the mind starts with healing the night.

I invite you to learn more about my clinical background, my personal faith, and the mission behind Abide Psychiatry.

Stories from Our Patients

These stories reflect real clinical outcomes. All identifying details have been changed to protect patient privacy.

  • "I hadn't slept well since my teens — I'd tried every medication out there and nothing stuck. Honestly, I didn't believe this could work either. The first few weeks of CBT-I were rough, just like Dr. T said they would be. But by week four, I slept better than I had in years. My husband noticed before I did — he said my mood was different, that things just felt lighter at home. I finally have my nights back."

    — Woman, 30s · Chronic insomnia, 15+ years

  • "As a nurse, I spend all day taking care of other people — but I wasn't sleeping, my mood was suffering, and it was starting to affect my work and my relationships. I was relying on things I shouldn't have been to get through the night. Dr. T helped me build a sleep routine that actually stuck, and once my sleep improved, everything else followed. I'm sharper at work, I'm more present with my family and friends, and I'm not depending on anything to fall asleep anymore."

    — Nurse · Insomnia, burnout, and substance reliance

  • "I was dealing with a lot of medical problems that kept me homebound — I couldn't get to church, couldn't see family the way I used to, and the isolation made my depression so much worse. Dr. T was the first provider who didn't just treat the depression but actually cared about the things that gave my life meaning. Reading scripture and praying together in our sessions helped me reconnect with my faith, and that gave me the motivation to rebuild my relationships with my church community and my family."

    — Man, homebound · Depression with complex medical conditions

  • "I had been on clonazepam three times a day for over twenty years. I didn't think there was another option. Dr. T walked me through what long-term use was actually doing to my brain and my sleep, and for the first time, someone made tapering feel possible instead of terrifying. It took a few months, but I got off of it completely. My anxiety is better. My sleep is better. I wish I had done this decades ago."

    — Woman, 60s · Long-term benzodiazepine use

  • "I came in thinking I just had insomnia. Dr. T caught that I also had sleep apnea — something no one had ever screened me for. Once I got on CPAP, the difference was night and day. I'm sleeping through the night for the first time in years. My wife says my mood is completely different — and she's sleeping better too now that I'm not snoring."

    — Man, retired · Undiagnosed sleep apnea + insomnia
